The Manslaughter
A stylish feature film reminscient of classic 70′s & 80′s horror flicks.
A dark, suspenseful tale, this anthology style thriller pays homage to classics from the genre & dares to ask: “What happens when a movie producer steals a horror writer’s idea for a film? You get a story with a killer ending.”
We are currently in development on The Manslaughter. This will be a horror anthology piece in the same vein as Twilight Zone, Creepshow, Cat’s Eye, Tales from the Hood, etc.
We have completed principal photography on two of the five shorts that will go into the film, and have assembled an amazing team for the feature.
The Manslaughter will be Written, Directed & Produced by Douglas Pritchard and Co-Produced by Julia Gessinger and Shaun Stewart.
The shorts all involve the amazing talent we know and love in the Orlando area, and we will be shooting the later scenes, the main story narrative that connects it all together, with some of those same folks from the shorts in and around the greater Los Angeles and Burbank, CA areas.
After the PPM offering round of financing is complete, we will be attaching several currently popular and newly rising scream queens to play the henchmen. And before we begin shooting on the feature’s main story line, we will announce our A-List celebrity actors who will be playing our central characters in the story… the writer and producer. These actors will be announced after we finish the development process and will be brought in as we shoot all the LA scenes.
We have recently attached Jose Cassella as our Director of Photography. A cinematographer with award winning artistry, Jose is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker, and an industry veteran.
He’s had a hand in having made numerous commercials for the “big guys” including McDonald’s, IBM, Sony, American Express, Apple Mac, Wendy’s etc.
Jose Cassella has shot over 400 TV and music videos in LA, Miami, NY and more and his feature film credits as a director include The Sacred, Second Coming, Delivery and more. In addition to working together on Manslaughter, Douglas Pritchard will be helping produce Noise, the Tinnitus Motion Picture a feature film by Jose Cassella.
Melissa Gruver of Reel Dreams Productions is now attached as the Line Producer for the Manslaughter. A seasoned and knowledgeable pro, we are very excited to welcome her to the team!
Melissa joins us via Reel Dreams Productions… Long active in the indie film scene, she and partner Randy Molnar have recently finished work on upcoming audience fright fests The Tenant & Cassadaga… Check out more about there recent contributions to the silver screen here: Reel Dreams Productions.
To help us, we are honored to be working with our long time friend, the amazingly talented Dani Donadi who will be doing the original score! Dani just completed work on our own Inner Beauty soundtrack, with haunting orchestral melodies reminiscent of an old gothic 70′s horror flick. He has also just finished the scores for the upcoming Cassadaga, and the newly released Whisper Home features – both films which Starfield Studios was recently involved with: IMDB
Also attached are: Pete Wesenberg and John Claudio Statzell of 45 Audio riding shotgun… shotgun mics that is, as they are on for audio capture… and for audio post thus far, we are glad to again have industry uber vetaerans Lee Riley and Ben Conley of Anything Audible on board… on the mixing board of course!
We are also attaching horror punk and music acts now, with discussions to attach local horror fan faves Sharkteeth & Cryptidz. Many more music acts are planned for the terrifyingly terrific soundtrack, and for the smooth stuff, we of course have European jazz stars Ellen & Berndt Marquart.
We’ll also be proud to have the help of CS Studios FX as well as many other talented SFX, Gore, CGI, Storyboard and other artisans being attached rapidly! Stay tuned for announcements…
Manslaughter will be a nod and homage to lots of eighties/nineties classic horror flicks, and there’s a lot of “film within a film” kind of stuff happening… it’ll have a cool retro vibe going on but also a lot of fun, contemporary ‘inside baseball’ about Hollywood as well… kind of “The Player” meets “Saw.”
Thanks, and remember – that’s the Man’s Laughter you’re hearing…
